Mitchell has prepared and prosecuted patent applications in a variety of technologies including mechanical devices, medical devices, industrial equipment, pharmaceutical compositions, topical skin compositions, nanoparticles, medical implants, adhesive compositions, paint and varnish compositions, dental compositions, polymeric compositions, semiconductor fabrication, antisense technologies, DNA microarrays, animal feed additives, and designs.


Legal Experience

 

Mitchell has 20+ years of combined intellectual property law and research & development experience.  Prior to founding Terra Nova Patent Law, PLLC on April 1, 2009, Mitchell was an associate at Schwegman, Lundberg, & Woessner, P.A. and at Mueting, Raasch & Gebhardt, P.A.  During law school, Mitchell was a law clerk at Merchant & Gould, P.C.  Mitchell has represented various large multinational corporations, large research universities, research institutes, small and mid-sized companies, technology start-ups, and individuals.


Research Experience

 

Before becoming a patent attorney, Mitchell held various research and development positions at 3M Company and at Imation Corporation.  Mitchell worked in the areas of photoconductors, electrophotographic toners, biosensors, nonlinear optics, photolithography, dyes and colorants, and photothermographic imaging systems. 

 

Prior to joining 3M, Mitchell was a postdoctoral fellow in synthetic organic chemistry at Harvard University working under the direction of Professor Yoshito Kishi.

Mitchell is admitted before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (Registration No. 59,763).  Mitchell is also admitted to practice law in the State of Minnesota.

 

Mitchell is the author of five professional publications and has thirteen United States Patents.

 

Mitchell is a member of American Intellectual Property Law Association, Minnesota State Bar Association, Minnesota Intellectual Property Law Association, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Research Experience

 

Before becoming a patent attorney, Yukiko held various research positions at Hitachi, Ltd., Central Research Laboratory and the University of Minnesota.  At Hitachi, Ltd., Yukiko was engaged in research and development of algorithms and hardware for various medical imaging systems including MRI, bio-magnetism, and ultrasound imaging.  At the University of Minnesota, Yukiko conducted research on medical devices used for MRI dynamic imaging.

Yukiko is admitted before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (Registration No. 50,307).  Yukiko is also admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia and in the State of Minnesota.

 

Yukiko is the author of six publications in major scientific journals and several series of articles relating to U.S. patent law on the Nikkei website.  Yukiko also has five United States Patents, seven Japanese Patents, and twenty-seven Japanese Patent Application Publications.

 

Yukiko is a member of American Intellectual Property Law Association, District of Columbia Bar, and Minnesota State Bar Association.

 

Yukiko is bilingual in English and Japanese.
